The Republic of Cabo Verde is a group of 10 islands, set in the Atlantic Ocean about 570 km (350 miles) off the coast of Africa. It has a population of only 500,000 people, half of whom live on one island: Sal. It is one of the poorest countries in the world (166/190) and almost devoid of natural resources. However, its superb year-round climate make it a growing tourist destination. It is also blessed with good governance and very little corruption.
